Cord Blood Donation
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Umbilical cord blood (UCB) used to be a biological waste product and has now gone to an importantsource for use in allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation.
Since the first cord blood transplantation, performed 20 years ago, more than 20.000 cord blood transplantations have been reported (source: BMDW). It has become a real survival chance for those patients who do not find a matched bone marrow donor on time. To be available as a stem cell source cord blood needs to be collected after birth and stored in specialized facilities (cord blood banks).
Upcoming parents have now the possibility to donate their baby´s cord blood free of charge with Vivocell Biosolutions.
